Experience a journey through time on these award-winning guided walking tours through the winding streets of medieval Ennis! An experienced guide will lead you through the atmospheric winding streets and “bow-ways” of the town, while revealing the intriguing characters and stories that shaped its history. Hear about the mythology and legends of the town – from banshees to Biddy Early (the magical lady of Clare who was tried for witchcraft in Ennis). Hear tales of murders and hangings, famine and poverty, rebellions and riots and discover how the most powerful men from Irelands past were closely linked to the town. Finish the tour in the comfortable setting of a local pub and learn more about Clare’s unique contribution to the traditional Irish music scene.

The tours leave at 11:00am every day except Wednesday and Sunday from outside the Ennis Tourist Office. The tour takes approx. 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete and makes 10 stops around the town taking in all the major sights of Ennis including the Daniel O'Connell Monument, The Old Abbey, The McPharland Building to name a few. As well as the rich history of the town the tour will also explore the interesting stories and legends associated with the town and take in the towns medieval architecture, art and sculptures.

Knappogue Castle was restored by the Andrew's family who very kindly allowed Shannon Heritage to use the Castle as a second venue for the growing numbers of tourist who wished to attend a banquet. From the outset quality was the objective. Professional producers, voice trainers and choreographers were employed and young Irish singers and musicians were trained to entertain to the highest standards.

You are greeted at the main door of the castle by the Earl’s Butler and the Ladies of the castle where you proceed to the Dalcassian Hall. Mingle with the Castle Entertainers and savour a goblet of mead (honey wine).

Enjoy music of the harp and fiddle followed by Medieval choral singing from the Ladies. The Earl’s Butler wittily recounts the history of the Castle finishing by explaining the ‘Rules of Chivalry’ practiced at Knappogue Castle and the dire consequences of breaching them!

Next, we will make the chocolate from raw melted cacao into a finalized shiny bar of chocolate and finish by wrapping up the final product to be brought home or eaten later.
